Albemarle-Pamlico Conservation and Communities Collaborative
Project Description: In 2007, APNEP became involved with the Albemarle-Pamlico Conservation and Communities Collaborative (AP3C). This partnership was developed by institutions interested in balancing the long-term conservation of natural systems with opportunities for the well-being of all the region’s citizens coordinate efforts. It is intended to provide a forum for working collaboratively whenever feasible. These organizations believe it will be possible to realize a sustainable future by avoiding duplicative efforts and missed opportunities.
The participating organizations represent a broad spectrum of land and water resource managers and conservation and community advocates, each with a different mission. Some are custodians of large areas of lands and waters held primarily for resource conservation and utilization. Some implement specific projects that modify the resource base through engineering and construction activities. Some are conservation and sustainable communities advocates, striving to influence decisions, policies and laws. All are dedicated to sustainable natural resources management, providing for human needs while protecting the integrity of the region’s ecosystems. Towards this end, the participating organizations will collaborate in an effort to resolve potential resource conflicts and mitigate potential threats to ecological systems while achieving conservation outcomes. Within their authority and consonant with their missions, they will work to maintain and protect the integrity and function of the region’s ecosystems in a way that allows for balanced, sustainable economic growth.
