APNEP Citizen Monitoring Network

Project Description:  APNEP has a Citizen Monitoring Network (CMN) program coordinator on staff who has recruited approximately 50 volunteers located in northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia monitor the water quality of a 30,000 square mile watershed area.  Data results are sent to the program coordinator at East Carolina University.  In addition to working with the volunteer monitors, the program coordinator also presents workshops and programs to interested civic, state and federal programs in an effort to inform, as well as to recruit.  The CMN provides the availability of useful water quality data to state agencies and interested individuals, but also engages citizens in protecting their local environment. students at big sweep
