Request for Proposals for Restoration and Research Projects from the
Albemarle-Pamlico National Estuary Program

Eligibility Requirements:

*Projects must meet all of the following requirements to be eligible for funding.

  1. 1. The project must be located within the APNEP region: Apnep Map

  3. The APNEP region includes the six major river basins show above. Projects must be within APNEP's program area (indicated by the red line in the above photo).

  4. 2. Federal, state, regional and local government agencies, academic institutions and nonprofit organizations and institutions are eligible to apply. Individuals are not eligible to apply.

  5. 3. The project must have a direct environmental benefit and must address at least one objective covered in
    APNEP's Comprehensive Conservation & Management Plan, or CCMP.

  6. 4. The project must have transferable methods. In other words, the methods used in your project must be able
    to be applied in other locations under similar circumstances.

  7. 5. The restoration projects must include a public outreach/education element and must contain signage containing the APNEP logo.

  8. 6. Restoration projects must be located on public lands or waters, or if located on private lands encumbered by a permanent conservation easement.

  9. 7. The project should be completed by Dec. 31, 2010.

Additional Information:

Applicants may apply for up to $100,000 per project.

Examples of potential projects include:
Wetland, riparian or hydrologic restoration; threatened and endangered species surveys; sea turtle or marine mammal surveys; river herring habitat restoration (including fish ladders and removal of migration obstacles); oyster habitat creation or restoration.

Recommendations:

  • Public-private partnerships are strongly encouraged.
  • Grant request may represent a component of a larger project.
  • Non-federal matching funds are strongly encouraged and will be considered in awarding of grants.
  • Partnerships and in-kind contributions (volunteer efforts and donated materials) are strongly encouraged.
  • Actions that address potential impacts of climate change are strongly encouraged.

Completed applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Feb 26, 2010.
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

 Limitations

  • Award or matching funds may not be used to purchase land.
  • Award may not be used to match federal grants.
  • All awards are contingent upon the availability of funds.
  • Applications should not exceed a request for more than $100,000.


What to include in your submission


Submit completed application, completed in its entirety.  Supporting photos or maps of the project site are encouraged.

All fields in the 2010 application form and project budget sections are required.

Applications should not exceed a request for more than $100,000.The basis for all payments distributed by APNEP to grant recipients will be reimbursement. Reimbursements will be made directly to the grant recipient, not to subcontractors or other vendors.

If you must mail in your application, our office requires that you send an electronic copy of all application materials in Microsoft Word on CD in addition to a paper application.
