The Albemarle - Pamlico Estuary region is home to many species of plants and animals.

Thousands of Canada geese, tundra swans,
many species of ducks and birds make their winter home
and year-round refuge in the region.

The estuary region is one of the last stongholds for the black bear on the Eastern Seaboard.
